Hootsuite vs Postpilot — the SMB use case

Published Jun 12, 20262 min read

Hootsuite is a serious tool. We're not going to pretend otherwise. If you're running social for a 50-person marketing department with shared inboxes, formal approval chains, and a budget that handles a €1k/month line item, Hootsuite is probably the right fit.

That's not the customer Postpilot is built for. Here's where the two tools actually diverge for an SMB owner.

The price gap is bigger than it looks

Hootsuite's entry-level "Professional" tier is €99/month for one user and 10 accounts, billed annually. Their "Team" tier (three users, 20 accounts) jumps to about €249/month.

Postpilot's Pro tier is €49/month for three users and 15 accounts — same trial, same EU hosting, same nine platforms.

If you only care about scheduling, this is just a price comparison and Postpilot wins. The deeper question is what each tool spends the difference on.

Where Hootsuite spends the difference

  • Approval workflows with formal reviewer chains, audit trails, and role-based permissions.
  • Inbox depth — bulk reply, agent assignment, SLA tracking, sentiment classification across millions of messages.
  • Campaign analytics — UTM attribution, campaign-level reporting, integration with Google Ads.
  • Enterprise compliance — SSO, SAML, SCIM, GDPR add-ons for EU customers, custom DPA.

Almost all of that is overhead for a four-person bakery. If you have three reviewers, two compliance officers, and a paid-search team, Hootsuite earns the price.

Where Postpilot spends the difference

  • AI captions trained on your last 20 posts, not a generic prompt. Hootsuite's "OwlyWriter" is a generic LLM wrapper.
  • EU-only hosting on Hetzner in Germany. Hootsuite is hosted on AWS in the US. GDPR-compliant on paper, US-jurisdiction in practice.
  • Setup time under 10 minutes. Hootsuite onboarding for a Team tier customer typically takes a 30-minute kickoff call.
  • One pricing page, no "talk to sales" wall. Postpilot Free, Starter, Pro, Business — all priced publicly. Hootsuite hides everything above Professional.
  • Honest scope. Postpilot does scheduling + inbox + analytics + AI. It does not pretend to do influencer discovery or social listening or competitor scraping. If you need those, you need a different tool.

When Hootsuite is the right answer

  • You have a marketing team of five or more.
  • You need formal approval chains with audit trails.
  • You buy paid social and need campaign-level attribution.
  • You need an SLA on enterprise support.
  • Your CFO has a "no SaaS under €1k/year" rule.

When Postpilot is the right answer

  • You're a single owner or 2–10 person business.
  • You want to spend 10 minutes a day, not 45.
  • You care that your customer data sits in Germany.
  • You want AI captions that sound like you, not a clever LLM wrapper.
  • You want the price on the public site, not after a discovery call.

We are not trying to be a Hootsuite replacement for every customer. We are trying to be the right answer for the SMB who looked at Hootsuite's pricing page, calculated €1,188/year, and decided to keep posting manually on three platforms while resolving to "do better next month."

For that customer, the math gets easier with us.
